Nanette HatzesFine-Arts Photographer/Artist"Enchanting, seductive, and very personal..." Annie Liebovitz
Nanette Hatzes holds a degree in Fine Arts, with a specialization in painting and photography from the University of Maryland. In 1980 she won first prize in Rolling Stone's photography contest in their annual edition of the College Papers. She was active in the Baltimore art scene at the time, exhibiting her photographs, doing visual images for performance pieces that were performed in New York City, and making short films. In the early 80's, she returned to painting and drawing, exhibiting her work in numerous galleries and museums. Recently Nanette returned to photography with renewed zest and passion. Her photographic portraits capture the magic that exists from moment to moment - in the relationship between the environment and the subject - and the relationship between the subject and the viewer. She works thematically and recently completed a series of portraits of women (The Goddess Project). The series was exhibited at the Blue Parrot in Gettysburg (November 2002) and in a solo exhibit at the Hodgson Gallery in Frederick, Maryland (April 2003). Nanette is at work on her next series, which examines the family. Nanette Hatzes creates portraits by commission and is represented by Americas' Arts gallery.
